Having a CV or resume with a solid structure is essential when seeking employment—a summary of your work and professional life that represents the first impression you’ll give to the recruiter and/or your potential employer.
We’re sharing a couple of tips to keep in mind when building your CV!
- Incorporate your contact information in a complete format in an easily visible location for the interviewer. It can be placed at the top of the CV or on one side. Remember to include not only your email but also any phone numbers for contact.
- If you decide to include a photo of yourself, ensure it looks professional, has a plain background, and is of good quality. We recommend wearing appropriate attire and smiling.
- When writing your professional objective and profile, make sure it’s clear and concise, focusing on the position you’re applying for.
- Remember to list your academic qualifications in reverse chronological order, starting with the most recent.
- Work experience should also be listed in reverse chronological order, and it’s advisable to detail your duties and responsibilities for each role in a list format. Don’t forget to mention the company you worked for, the start and end dates of each experience, as well as the role you held.
- If you have language skills, mention which languages you know and your proficiency level in both speaking and writing.
- When specifying your skills, ensure they are tailored to the job or industry you’re applying for. This also applies to your work experiences.
- Regarding references, ensure that if you have them, they are available and complete. It’s advisable to include the email, cell phone or telephone number, as well as the residence or nationality of the reference.
- Always remember to tailor your CV to the job you’re applying for.
- Make sure the information you include is accurate and verifiable.
